What should I consider?
Available space: Braces with additional padding, straps or stabilising components may require roomier footwear.
Footwear design: Flexible sneakers may accommodate some supports more easily than narrow, rigid or tightly fitted shoes.
Orthotics and custom insoles: If you wear orthotics, particularly custom-made ones, these may change how your foot sits inside the shoe, especially with rigid ankle braces.
Correct positioning: Your footwear and orthotics shouldn't push the brace out of alignment or create excessive pressure.
Comfort: Both the brace and footwear should feel secure without restricting circulation.
Compatibility isn't guaranteed, particularly with rigid ankle braces, custom orthotics or closely fitted footwear.
Avoid forcing a brace into footwear or altering its components or prescribed orthotics to make it fit.
